Hypnosis

Frequently Asked Questions

Does insurance cover hypnosis packages?

Unfortunately at this time there is no evidence that hypnosis sessions or hypnotherapy are covered by insurance.  Please check with your plan to validate if your insurance company is or is not the exception.

Are you located in Bellingham, Washington?

No.   My office is located in Mount Vernon, WA.

I was inspired by the name Fairhaven for two different reasons:

1.  The founder of the town  “named this area Fair Haven from the native “see-see-lich-em”, meaning “safe port” or “quiet place”.  This is my hope with your hypnosis experience, that you can experience a quiet place where your emotional storms once raged.

2.  The words Fair and Haven.

Fair:  The emotions Anger and Guilt are created from a perception around fairness:  Anger is based on the belief that someone or something was unfair to me or someone else.  Guilt is based on the belief that I was unfair to someone or something.  Through hypnosis, the anger and guilt can be resolved and transformed and life can feel good and fair again.

Haven:  Merriam-Webster defines a haven as a safe port.  Anxiety and phobias can make life feel unsafe.  Hypnosis can help create a haven of safety in your mind and heart and calm the waters of your soul.

What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is the state of hyper suggestibility and focused concentration often accompanied by a physical sensation of deep relaxation.  Your hypnotist will act like a guide and assist your in achieving this state.

Once that state has been achieved, you will receive what are called hypnotic suggestions.  These suggestions will be agreed upon by you and will enable you to use the power of hypnosis to make the changes you want in your life.

Hypnosis is a tool that can help you just like it has helped millions of other people to take back control of their lives.  Hypnosis can help you change old habits and provide you with motivation to do the things that you may have been putting off.

Is Hypnosis Safe?

Hypnosis is safe.

It feels similar to experiencing a daydream.  Usually you will feel relaxed when doing hypnosis.  Although some techniques are very active and you may even speak with the hypnostist during your session.  Hypnosis is a very pleasnat experience; a time to let go of the other thoughts of the day an dfocus on the issues you came in to work on.

Scientists,  medical practioners, psychologists and professional hypnotists have been using hypnosis for over 200 years.  In fact, hypnosis has been sanctioned and used by the medical community since 1958.

Can I Be Hypnotized?

Absolutely, you’ve done this before just not intentionally.

It’s easy to go into hypnosis and it’s a normal state of mind that everyone has already experienced.  Do these sound familiar?  Driving and losing track of time? Tuning out the world while reading a book, watching a television program or being on your phone?  Surprise, they are all forms of hypnosis.

When you come in for hypnosis, all you need to do is follow the instructions of the hypnotist.

How much does it cost?

Our hypnosis practice does not offer single sessions as a stand alone service.  Instead, during our consultation, we will discuss your issue, determine if we work well together,  come to an agreement if hypnosis can help you and decide which hypnosis session package works for best for  you.

Can I be hypnotized against my will?

Absolutely not.  Hypnosis is an agreed upon state entered into by both parties.  You follow the instructions of the Hypnotherapist and only by doing this do you remain in hypnosis. Your hypnotherapist is truly only a guide.

Is this like the hypnosis we see on stage?

The main difference between stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy is the expected outcome.  Stage hypnotists work with volunteers and audiences in a public forum to create a fun and entertaining time.  The suggestions made are temporary and only last for the duration of the show.   When the volunteers awaken at the end of the performance, the suggestions are removed and the comical effects wear off.

In contrast, hypnotherapy is a private, confidential program where the hypnotist aims to help the client reach a personal goal whether it be sleeping better, losing weight, breaking a habit, overcoming a fear or any other number of things a client would want to work on.  The suggestions given in hypnotherapy are consensual and designed to remain beyond the session to produce the desired long-term personal change.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnosis works by achieving a level of focused awareness, and at the same time bypassing the analytical aspect of the mind. Another way to describe the analytical aspect of the mind is that it is a comparing mechanism. When new information is introduced to the mind, the comparing mechanism compares the new information to what it already believes is either true or false. This is a protective aspect of our mind.

This is why changing habits by willpower alone is so difficult – we often already believe we cannot change, so thinking about making the change happen (using willpower alone) is ineffective. Hypnosis is powerful because with focused awareness the analytical aspect of the mind is bypassed, and new, healthy and beneficial suggestions can be made directly into the subconscious, without the comparing mechanism rejecting these new beliefs. So the change we want to achieve in our life is accepted by the subconscious mind as true, and we see results quickly.

What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the applied use of hypnosis. Hypnosis is defined as a heightened sense of suggestibility and therapy can be defined as anything that is done to move someone forward in health an wholeness. Thus, hypnotherapy uses the power of hypnosis combined with your intentions to move you closer to your goals. Hypnotherapy is used to help you get results when nothing else has worked.

Who Will Hypnotize Me?

It is now commonly accepted that all hypnosis is really self-hypnosis.  When you follow the instructions of the hypnotist, you will actually be hypnotizing yourself.  Your hypnotist is a highly trained and qualified hypnosis professional.

Your hypnotist is bound by professional ethics and the laws of the state in which it is practiced.

Your hypnotist  has undergone advanced professional training and certification In addition.  She is a professional who will maintain the highest ethical standards, treat you with respect and maintain confidentiality similar to medical professionals.

How long does it take?

Sessions usually take 90 minutes +/- 15 minutes except the first visit which may take 2 hours for paperwork and introductory videos.

Most problems people are struggling with take an average of 5 sessions and the good news is that you will feel some relief after the first session.

Will it change my personality?

Hypnotherapy can be a very powerful tool for personal transformation.  During the process, favorable aspects of your personality (especially the long forgotten ones) will come to life while allowing access to the much needed solution from your subconscious mind for the unfavorable ones.  This new insight and perspective neutralizes the root cause of the those aspects of your personality and makes the space for the feel-good parts of you to shine.  Hypnosis is about changing for the better and becoming the best version of yourself.

Will hypnosis work for me?

Hypnotherapy can work for anyone willing to follow instructions and are committed to making the change for themselves.  Hypnosis is not a magic pill or miracle cure (despite the results feeling that way!).
